Broccoli Namul - Korean Sesame Garlic Broccoli

Ingredients

  1. 1 head broccoli (Large, about 400 g, cut into bite-sized florets)
  2. 1 ½ tbsp sesame oil
  3. 2 clove garlic (finely minced)
  4. ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  5. ⅛ tsp black pepper
  6. 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  7. ½ tsp soy sauce (for deeper umami)
  8. ½ tsp sugar (for balance)
  9. Thinly sliced green onion (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Blanch the broccoli: Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add broccoli florets and blanch for 45–60 seconds, just until bright green and slightly tender. Drain immediately and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking. Squeeze gently to remove excess water.
  2. Season: In a mixing bowl, add the blanched broccoli, minced garlic, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Toss gently until evenly coated.
  3. Finish: Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on top and give it one last toss. Taste and adjust seasoning. You can add a touch more salt or sesame oil if desired.
  4. Serve: Serve warm or chilled as a banchan (Korean side dish).
