Poke several holes around each sweet potato with a fork to allow steam to escape and help cook them evenly. If you have super large sweet potatoes, cut into 100-150 g chunks."},{"number":2,"text":"Arrange the sweet potatoes in the rice cooker pot in a single layer, making sure they are in contact with the bottom. A few can sit on top but they won’t cook as softly as much as the ones on the bottom (which we can cook further, see below)."},{"number":3,"text":"For a fluffy texture, add just enough water to cover the base of the pot. For a moist and sticky texture, add about 3-4 cm (around 1.5 inches) of water above the sweet potatoes."},{"number":4,"text":"Set the rice cooker to Quick Mode for sweet potatoes under 100 grams, White Rice mode for sweet potatoes 100-200 grams and Brown Rice mode for sweet potatoes over 200 grams. If they are skinnier sweet potatoes over 200 grams you can cook them on white rice mode. Once the timer goes off, check for doneness by inserting a skewer or chopstick into the center of each sweet potato. If there’s resistance, continue to cook for an additional half to one full cycle, depending on the size of your sweet potatoes."},{"number":5,"text":"I say optional, but I highly recommend this step! If you find your sweet potatoes cooked through but want them softer or they are very moist and want them more cakey, remove the skin and microwave covered for 1 minute. Flip the potatoes and microwave uncovered for another minute. Depending on your microwave you may need to microwave for more or less. It should turn from a dull beige-ish colour to bright yellow in colour when ready. This will make the sweet potatoes sweeter and remove the extra moisture."},{"number":6,"text":"For a roasted effect, transfer the cooked sweet potatoes to a toaster oven or air fryer:"},{"number":7,"text":"Air fry at 400°F (204°C) for 6-10 minutes until the skin crisps and some of the natural sugars start oozing out."},{"number":8,"text":"Serve the sweet potatoes warm as is or with toppings like a pinch of salt or salted butter."}],"date_published":"2026-10-29T23:51:26.333829+00:00","date_modified":"2026-10-29T23:51:26.333829+00:00"}
